Things I’m Grateful For: My Fur Family

Many animals have called our house home over the years. We currently have two outdoor cats living in an outdoor Cat Condo, and one dog, Bryn, a pit mix (our 55-pound lap dog).

Bryn found us one day in September 2020. She wandered onto our property, lost and malnourished. She wasn’t chipped and the vet said she was about 7 months old. My husband, Robert, wanted to keep her, but I admit, I fought him on it. We already had the cats and another dog, Lacey, who was getting up in age and didn’t like having other dogs around.

I am so glad Robert won that argument. Bryn fit right in. Lacey, then around 13 years old and arthritic, took Bryn under her care, guiding her with a watchful eye and even offering a few stern corrections when needed.

Unfortunately, we lost Lacey this year. That was a terrible blow for us, but Lacey’s legacy lives on through Bryn. Bryn carries so much of Lacey’s spirit, from her gentle nature to her playful curiosity. It’s as if Lacey passed on her wisdom, ensuring that Bryn would continue to bring joy and love to our family.
